The Laboratory collection features both historical and current images of the James J. Howard Marine Sciences Laboratory facilities, as well as its staff at work, Laboratory Open Houses, and images of the Laboratory's first director, Dr. Lionel A. Walford.

18 Hartshorne Drive, commonly known as Building 18, is located on Officer's Row in the historic Fort Hancock section of Sandy Hook. The building neighbored the original Sandy Hook Laboratory campus and once served as a dormitory for Sandy Hook Laboratory volunteers, interns, and students. 18 Hartshorne Drive is currently occupied by the American Littoral Society and Clean Ocean Action.
