Description
A photograph of one of the trailers used by Sandy Hook Laboratory staff as workspace after arson destroyed the main Laboratory building on September 21, 1985. The charred remains of the main Laboratory building can be seen behind the trailer. While NOAA considered different options for the relocation and/or possible closure of the Laboratory, temporary facilities such as these trailers and the Army Building 74 (C-Battery) and morgue were used by scientists and administrative staff to continue the Laboratory’s research and administrative work. The arson that destroyed the Laboratory building, which had been occupied since 1960 as a federal marine science laboratory, resulted in scientists losing most of their research and millions of dollars of damage.
