The Laboratory collection features both historical and current images of the James J. Howard Marine Sciences Laboratory facilities, as well as its staff at work, Laboratory Open Houses, and images of the Laboratory's first director, Dr. Lionel A. Walford.

A photograph of the staff and visitor parking lot located in the rear of the original Sandy Hook Laboratory campus. The campus was located on Officer's Row in the historic Fort Hancock section of Sandy Hook. The three-story main building, previously an Army Hospital, and adjoining three structures constituted the first marine sciences laboratory dedicated to sportfish research and was operational from 1960 until September 1985 when it was destroyed by arson.
