Biography / Administrative History

Richard B. (Dick) Russell is a prolific environmental journalist, author, and activist who resides in California. In 1982, Mr. Russell began a grassroots campaign to restore striped bass stocks threatened by overfishing. Ultimately, his advocacy and the numerous articles he authored documenting the campaign and the importance of striped bass as a species played a central role in the recovery of striped bass stocks along the East Coast. Mr. Russell's work on striped bass conservation throughout the 1980's and 1990's and the extensive research he performed on the species formed the basis for his book The Striper Wars, published by Island Press/Shearwater Books in 2005.
